It looks like there’s a possibility that both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover may reunite onscreen for Lethal Weapon 5. Although the news is somewhat surprising, since both actors are in their 60s and 70s respectively, there is apparently a script that is being considered with director Richard Donner set to direct.
Although the band is proverbially back together with Gibson, Glover and Donner, we wonder if it’s a little too late for this onscreen reunion. Lethal Weapon is arguably the best buddy cop franchises around with four films thus far to its credit. It’s also spun a decently successful TV series lately.
But the last time the original versions of Martin Riggs and Roger Murtagh were onscreen together was over 20 years ago. And with both actors now older, we wonder if the franchise is truly not living up to its catchphrase of “we being too old for this shit.” Donner, despite being a well-respected director, is also well into his 80s, with his last directorial effort being 16 Blocks in 2006.
Still, the prospect of seeing both Gibson and Glover reunite does seem enticing, especially for Gibson who is enjoying a renaissance as of late with a string of strong directorial projects. Whether or not Lethal Weapon 5 comes to fruition will depend on how well the script is and also if both actors are willing to take another stab at this action franchise.
