The Cars franchise is often viewed by Pixar fans as one of the rare missteps the animation giant has delivered in its long storied history. Nevertheless, despite not being critically acclaimed films, Cars has nevertheless proven to be extremely popular, which is why we’re now getting a third film in the series.
Cars 3 looks to be the third and final act of the franchise for the foreseeable future as it returns pretty much to the core story that made the first film a success. Cars 3 is placed in the current timeline of the franchise, with Lightning McQueen now facing challenges on the track by newer and faster racers.
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage.
Cars 3 is slated to open in cinemas in late summer 2017.
