The second Bumblebee trailer is out and by all accounts it looks the closest to the beloved Saturday morning cartoon than anything we’ve seen prior. Granted the Michael Bay films made billions, but this smaller scale Transformers spinoff under the helm of Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) seems more in tune with the original source material.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
The second Bumblebee trailer not only sees the titular hero embrace his original form of a VW bug but it is also an element present in several other Transformers characters. Eagle eyed fans will no doubt re-watch this trailer several times to catch glimpses of Soundwave, Ravage, Shockwave and Optimus Prime in their original glory.
Joining Steinfeld in this new adventure are WWE superstar John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon, and Stephen Schneider. Justin Theroux and Angela Bassett also lend their voices to a pair of Decepticons in the film.
Bumblebee rolls out in cinemas in late December 2018.
