BMW Group Malaysia has announced the return of the BMW Shorties, Malaysia’s longest running and most prestigious short film competition which now enters its ninth year. The theme for the ninth edition of the prestigious short film competition centres around ‘Change’ and is aimed at challenging the creativity of Malaysians in communicating changes through the expression of a short film.
Judging this year’s competition is a line-up of Malaysia’s best film making experts in the industry, including five-time BMW Shorties veteran and commercial film maker Lina Tan; BMW Shorties veteran and Malaysia’s most prominent film producer Nandita Solomon; film producer from Reservoir Production Ismail Kamarul; film director from Director’s Think Tank Rajay Singh; and film editor Affandi Jamaludin who has worked on films such as Ombak Rindu and Sepet.
The BMW Shorties short film competition will once again provide budding film enthusiasts in Malaysia with the opportunity to win an RM 75,000 production grant. Other recognition for film making talent in a line-up of awards include Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing and Best Sound Design as well as the ever popular People’s Choice Award.
In addition to that, nominees of the Best Screenplay award will also be awarded a Script Development Grant developed and sponsored by Red Films, the production company led by Lina Tan. The grant, which includes a RM 1,000 cash prize and script consultancy support from industry experts to develop a professional screenplay for their next project, was introduced to encourage more Malaysians to take up the creative challenge of developing imaginative screenplays for potential commercial use.
The BMW Shorties is now open for entries and budding short filmmakers have until the 2nd of November 2015 to submit their short film entries.
