And so it begins, the pivotal start of a visionary project to document how our planet evolves over the next seven years. This is Changing Planet a new landmark nature documentary from BBC Earth.
Led by six presenters passionate about the natural world, they will visit six habitats and return over a period of seven years to chart pivotal changes in Earth’s history, documenting these stories, and meeting the scientists and local conservationists fighting to make a difference.
In the first year of this unprecedented documentary project, presenters Liz Bonnin, Chris Packham, Steve Backshall, Gordon Buchanan, Ade Adepitan and Ella Al-Shamahi will be in California, Iceland, the Maldives, Brazil, Kenya and Cambodia.
As they explore the ecological issues threatening the planet, the presenters will also discover stories of hope through the ground-breaking conservation efforts of local residents, scientists and conservationists working to preserve our ecosystems.
The nature documentary will tackle important and significant topics revolving around the natural world. Part of the programming will carry themes such as Reef Sustainability (Maldives), Melting Glaciers & Whale Conservation (Iceland), River Basin Protection (Cambodia), Tackling Drought (Kenya) and Ecotourism (Kenya).
Throughout Changing Planet, audiences will be provided new insights into the environmental impact affecting these areas and the efforts taken to curb it.
Changing Planet premieres on BBC Earth on Sunday, 31st July at 9pm, available on Unifi TV channel 501, Astro channel 554 and BBC Player.
