With an impressive haul of USD2.790.2 billion dollars it managed to rake in to date following its release three months ago, Avengers: Endgame has now surpassed Avatar as the undisputed champ of the global box-office.
The Marvel Studios’ sequel accomplished the feat on 20th July 2019, when it pushed past Avatar’s impressive take of USD2.789.7, a record that stood for ten years. The figure was confirmed by Box Office Mojo.
Many expected Avengers: Endgame, which marked the culmination of the first eleven years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to do roaring business. But becoming the global box-office champ was something quite unexpected, even for die-hard fans.
Many films threatened to usurp Avatar from its lofty throne, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which ended its run with USD2.068.2 billion. Still that film reigns supreme at the U.S box-office with an incredible tally of USD936.7 million, which the Marvel sequel has no chance of beating. Nevertheless, its USD854.2 gross in the States is certainly nothing to scoff at.
Credit has to be given to Disney for orchestrating the film’s re-release with bonus footage and highlights several weeks ago, which helped invigorate Endgame’s run at the box-office. The final push worked for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as it notched up an additional USD37 million to finally put the Marvel Studios’ film over the top.
