Aquaman has been a monster hit for Warner Bros, which is why it isn’t surprising to hear the studio planning more properties based around the franchise. The latest development is reportedly a spinoff of the DC Comics adaptation, one which focuses on the creatures of The Trench.
Fans who saw the film will recall the pivoting moment in the film where the characters of Aquaman and Mera had to do battle with the deep-sea creatures towards the third act of the film. In Aquaman, The Trench is revealed to be a deep sea territory occupied by mutated creatures that were originally Atlanteans.
Warner Bros has already put together a writing team to develop the project, which is said to be more horror-based, with James Wan and Peter Safran producing. As far as Aquaman 2 goes, it is only inevitable to see a sequel green lit by the studios fairly soon as the film has already delivered USD1.1 billion at the box-office.
