An American Werewolf in London is set to be remade at Universal with Max Landis writing and directing the film. If all goes to plan, do expect Landis to deliver a fitting tribute to the remake as his father, John Landis directed the original cult classic.
The original film focused on two friends who are backpacking in the English countryside when they get attacked by a werewolf. The film is considered by many as the quintessential monster-horror film, and producing a fitting reboot could bode well for Universal.
With the current deluge of superhero movies, Universal is doing the right thing by focusing its attention on monster movie franchises instead. To date the studio is already hard at work with a Tom Cruise-led The Mummy film with films based on Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, starring Russell Crowe in the works as well.
An American Werewolf in London is currently in development.
