Netflix is enjoying tremendous success with its Marvel series of shows and now it seems Jeremy Renner wants to get in on the action. In a recent interview with Comicbook.com at Silicon Valley Comic Con, the actor admitted he was open to star in a Netflix series based on his Hawkeye character.
“I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world,” said Renner. “These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now; you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.”
Hawkeye has been a fan favourite amongst fans although his appearance in the Marvel cinematic universe has been downplayed to cameos and smaller roles compared to his more illustrious co-stars. The actor first cameoed in Thor before making a full-length appearance in The Avengers in 2012. He returned for the sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron and will be making another appearance in Captain America: Civil War.
At this point it remains uncertain if Renner’s Hawkeye character will appear in other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or if he has a key role to play in any of them. By all accounts, having a Hawkeye series on Netflix doesn’t sound too bad to lengthen the shelf-life of this popular character.
