Although Wonder Woman 1984 has only just been released, Warner Bros. has already announced Wonder Woman 3 is officially happening. The news is somewhat surprising considering that the sequel will not garner as much at the box-office as the original due to cinemas across the globe still closed due to the pandemic.
Nevertheless, the big wigs at Warner Bros. probably liked what director Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot has done with the franchise, in order to green light another film. Wonder Woman 1984 is still opening gradually in cinemas across the world and it has also premiered on HBO Max in the U.S.
The film, which is set in the 80s also stars Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and Pedro Pascal. As far as Wonder Woman 3 goes, the film will mark the final instalment to the trilogy, which began in 2017. The film will also reunite Jenkins and Gadot for one more run with the DC superhero franchise.
“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able to continue her story with our real-life Wonder Women – Gal [Gadot] and Patty [Jenkins] – who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich in a media statement.
To date, Wonder Woman 1984 has garnered well over USD85 million at the global box-office, which is certainly impressive considering how the pandemic has drastically affected film revenues across the world.
