Lifetime will be remembering Whitney Houston in a big way this February. The channel will pay tribute to the legendary singer on her third death anniversary, which falls on 11 February with back-to-back specials beginning at 8pm.
Remembering Whitney will kick-off the tribute with an the hour-long special taking a look back at the life of the singer through the eyes of her family and friends, using archival footage of Whitney’s numerous television performances, interviews, and appearances over the years.
Viewers will follow Whitney’s brother Gary as he visits their childhood home, and hear from Whitney’s mother – gospel singer Cissy Houston – about how Whitney’s music and acting careers began. Bobbi Kristina, Whitney’s daughter, looks back on what it was like to be raised by an international superstar. Whitney’s manager and sister-in-law, Pat Houston, and other family members share their memories of Whitney and touch on the personal loss they suffered when she passed.
The tribute then continues at 9pm with the Lifetime original movie Whitney. Angela Bassett makes her directorial debut with this movie, featuring Yaya DaCosta and Arlen Escarpeta. It chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model Whitney Houston and singer and songwriter Bobby Brown from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity to their courtship and tumultuous marriage.
Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Houston’s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both. Houston’s vocal performances in the film are sung by Grammy-nominated and multiplatinum-selling entertainer Deborah Cox.
