Fans of Nintendo will want to check out the new Super Nintendo World, which will officially open its doors on 4th February 2021. The video game-inspired attraction is part of Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. The opening ties in with the theme park’s 20th Anniversary Celebrations.
Besides immersing visitors into the world of Nintendo, specifically, the world of Super Mario, the theme park will feature a number of unique rides and attractions. Super Nintendo World will feature Mario Kart- and Yoshi-themed rides and attractions, as well as restaurants, shops and other experiences.
Guests will also wear a Power-Up Band, which will help bring gameplay to life as they make their way around the park. Via the Power-Up Band, guests can also punch, block and collect virtual coins, which essentially bring some of the Super Mario gaming experience into the real world. Check out the video below for a first inside look at the brand new theme park.
In terms of rides, the theme park will boast the world’s first Mario Kart theme park ride, Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge. Featuring augmented reality technology, the interactive ride will allow guests to race through the iconic courses of Mario Kart with their favourite Nintendo characters and be transported into the Nintendo worlds. They will steer into the Mushroom Kingdom and throw shells as they race to the finish line with Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.
Another key feature of Super Nintendo World is Bowser’s Castle, which features stone walls, spiked fences and heavy iron doors along with a massive stone statue of Bowser at the centre of a grand staircase.
