It’s been over three decades but it looks like Top Gun: Maverick is going to satisfy audiences’ need for speed as it flies into cinemas next year. The long overdue sequel to Top Gun, which incidentally came out in 1986, sees Tom Cruise reprising his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
Judging by the trailer, it seems the US Navy fighter pilot still has an issue with authority, and is still doing what he does best and that is flying planes.
Although the trailer teases some subtle throwbacks to the original, the key takeaway from the trailer is undoubtedly the stunning aerobatic manoeuvres orchestrated by the fighter jets. This one is definitely due for a viewing on the biggest screen possible.
Director Joseph Kosinki is directing the latest instalment to the franchise with Jerry Bruckheimer producing.
Joining Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick is Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Ed Harris. Val Kilmer is also back as the Iceman. The film flies into cinemas in June 2020.
