The Many Saints of Newark is evidently keeping things in the family with the casting of a young Tony Soprano. The Sopranos prequel will see James Gandolfini’s son portraying a young Tony Soprano. Michael Gandolfini is the latest addition to the cast, which now includes Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga and Corey Stoll. The Many Saints of Newark will tell the story of Dickie Moltisanti, father of the original series’ Christopher Moltisanti and mentor to the teenage Tony Soprano.

SpongeBob SquarePants 3 Begins Production
The gang from Bikini Bottom will be back on the big screen with an all-new adventure. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge has started production and will reportedly be a prequel story. Tim Hill is directing this third instalment of this animated feature with voice actors Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass and Clancy Brown expected to return. The movie though will be the first SpongeBob Squarepants production to follow creator Stephen Hillenburg’s passing in November.

Kate Winslet To Star In New HBO Series
winsletOscar winning actress, Kate Winslet is making her return to the small screen to star in a new HBO limited series. Winslet will lead the Mare of Easttown, which focuses on a small town detective whose life crumbles around her when she starts investigating a local murder. Gavin O’ Connor (The Accountant, Warrior) is directing the limited series for HBO. This marks the second collaboration between the channel and Winslet who also starred in the hit mini-series, Mildred Pierce.

Chris McKay Teams With Netflix For Millarworld’s Reborn
Reborn_ComicNetflix is banking on the comic book genre in a big way with its ambitious Millarworld adaptation. The streaming giant has tapped Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) to adapt Reborn, which was co-written by both Mark Millar and Greg Capulo. The comic book series centres on an elderly woman who dies only to be reborn as a young warrior in a fantastical world known as Adystria, which is filled with monsters and magic.

Netflix Joins the MPAA
In a historic move, Netflix has just become the first streaming service to join the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).Coincidentally this development comes hot on the heels of the Best Picture Oscar nomination for Netflix’s Roma by Alfonso Cuaron. The move to join the MPAA could result in some major changes with Netflix’s business model. For starters, all original movies produced by the streaming service can now be rated by the MPAA, which could pave the way for theatrical releases in the near future.
