The Weekly Wrap: Robin Hood First Look

There’s another Robin Hood film heading to cinemas in 2018 and it will star Taron Egerton as the infamous archer. Lionsgate’s new film will be an origins tale directed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) and is due to hit cinemas in late September 2018. Despite it being another Robin Hood tale, Lionsgate has assembled a pretty impressive cast for this adventurous romp. Joining Egerton is Jamie Foxx as Little John, Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlett, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Han_Solo_SpeederDespite being only several months away, Disney and Lucasfilm has yet to release a trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. Nevertheless many expect the studio to stick to their guns and keep to the film’s end May 2018 date. To whet the appetites of fans in the meantime, director Ron Howard shared an image on Twitter in what appears to be a Speeder on New Year’s Day. “Happy New Year from Team #Solo. We’re pretty pumped for 2018”- read the Tweet sent out by Howard.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 2 Teaser

The second season of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will arrive on the streaming channel on 30th March 2018. To further promote the series, Netflix has released the first teaser for the series starring Neil Patrick Harris. Based on the internationally bestselling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler), season two of the Netflix original series plunges further into the epic world of this darkly comedic mystery. Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Presley Smith, Patrick Warburton and K. Todd Freeman (among others) return for season two.

Cloverfield Movie Pushed Back
10_Cloverfield_LaneThe Cloverfield franchise is proving to be quite profitable for Paramount. With both Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane pulling in a nice sum of cash of over USD100 million versus a small budget, it isn’t surprising to see another film being set-up for this sci-fi franchise. The latest film in the series, The God Particle, will arrive this year but fans may have to wait a little longer. The movie has been reportedly pushed back from its initial February released and will now premiere in April instead. The God Particle stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Bruhl, and Chris O’Dowd.

The CW Heroes Mid-Season Trailer

The superheroes of The CW a.k.a. The Arrow-Verse are due to make their return in January 2018. Following the recent crossover, Crisis on Earth-X, there will be a number of massive obstacles the heroes will have to contend with. Supergirl for starters is licking her wounds following her beat down by the supervillain Reign, whilst The Flash is facing potential jail time for the ‘murder’ of Clifford DeVoe a.k.a. The Thinker. Oliver Queen meanwhile is facing to put together his fractured team following the departures of several mainstay teammates of Team Arrow.

Game of Thrones Final Season
Bookmark your calendars Game of Thrones fans because the final season of the hit series will air in 2019. HBO has confirmed that Game of Thrones‘ six-episode eighth and final season will premiere in 2019. No official date has been given for the premier of the final run of GoT but it may well hit HBO screens sometime in late summer, much like season 7. 2019 is a good year to call time on the series as HBO has a packed programming schedule that year. Also scheduled to premier next year is the Watchmen adaptation series as well as Westworld.
