Following the retooling of the Transformers franchise, which began with Bumblebee in 2018, Paramount Pictures is focusing on expanding the film series with a pair of movies. The studio has tapped James Vanderbilt (Netflix’s Murder Mystery) and Joby Harold (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum) to pen the script for the films. The direction for both projects is unknown at this point of time but there is no shortage of Transformers stories to tell. Paramount could expand the new robot universe that was rebooted with Bumblebee or even tap into source material such as Beast Wars.
Priyanka Chopra Join The Matrix?
The Matrix 4 will apparently add more star power based on a report by Variety. According to the publication, Indian actress, Priyanka Chopra is in final talks to join the sequel, which will be directed by Lana Wachowski. The fourth Matrix movie already has a stacked cast with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss returning as Neo and Trinity with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jessica Henwick also on the roster of talent. The Matrix 4 is inching towards its production start date as the film is scheduled to hit cinemas in May 2021.
Weapon 5 Update
Proving that they’re still not too old for this sh*t, the original cast and director may well return for another round of mayhem in Lethal Weapon 5. The buddy cop actioner, which was directed by Richard Donner in 1987, starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Now over thirty years later, the gang may reunite again according to recent comments made by producer Dan Lin. The last Lethal Weapon film was released in 1998, which is over twenty years ago. The franchise was also made into a TV series, which ran from 2016 to 2019.
Howard To Direct The Fixer
Academy-award winning director, Ron Howard may have found his new project, which is the action thriller, The Fixer. The story revolved around true events involving CIA and FBI agents who team up with Chicago mobsters to take out Fidel Castro. The film is currently in development at Paramount Pictures. Howard himself is coming off a busy period, having wrapped Hillbilly Elegy for Netflix. The film, which is based the best-selling memoir by J.D. Vance will be released later this year.
Crown To End After Season 5
Netflix has officially announced the end of fan-favourite series, The Crown, which chronicles the life of the British Royal Family. That means fans will now have to look forward to two more seasons on the streaming channel before The Crown officially comes to an end. Netflix broke the news via a Tweet, stating “#TheCrown will return for a fifth and final season with Imelda Staunton playing The Queen.” It also added that creator Peter Morgan originally planned six seasons but says: “Now that we have begun work on the stories for S5 it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.”
