Disney’s live-action production of Mulan has signed a pretty big name to the film. Fittingly it’s none other than action star Donnie Yen. The actor will portray the role of Commander Tung according to Deadline. Yen will star opposite Chinese actress Liu Yifei who will take on the role of the titular heroine. Cameras are yet to roll on this live-action film but it should begin later this year as Disney plans to roll out Mulan in cinemas in summer 2020.
Star Trek: Discovery Casts Its Captain Pike
The season finale of Star Trek: Discovery left fans wanting more as it teased the arrival of the U.S.S Enterprise. As the CBS/Netflix series looks to continue, the showrunners have already added a vital piece of the puzzle to this new development. Actor, Anson Mount will be joining the Star Trek series, portraying Captain Pike, who fans know as the original Captain of the Enterprise. The character was most recently played by Bruce Greenwood in the Star Trek films by J.J. Abrams. Mount previously played Blackbolt in the short-lived Inhumans TV series.
Toy Story 4 Officially Announced for 2019
After numerous delays and production hiccups, Disney and Pixar have announced that the fourth instalment to Toy Story will arrive in cinemas in 2019. Toy Story 4 will be built around a story penned by Stephany Folsom (Thor: Ragnarok) and will be directed by Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date Short). Cooley confirmed the announcement on Twitter announcing that Toy Story 4 will arrive in cinemas on 21 June 2019. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack are expected to be back to voice the characters of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie.
Netflix Renews Jessica Jones
There will be another season of Jessica Jones as Netflix has confirmed Season 3 of the Marvel superhero series. This is great news for fans, especially as Jessica Jones has been the most consistent and well-packaged Marvel series produced by Netflix. Krysten Ritter, Rachael Taylor and Carrie-Anne Moss are tipped to return for season 3 of the series, which will expand the story arc of Jones’ best friend, Trish Walker as she transforms into the villain Hellcat. It is safe to assume that this will be the central plot for Jessica Jones Season 3.
Fast & Furious Spin-Off Gets A Director
The wheels are indeed turning on the Fast & Furious spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. John Wick and Deadpool 2 director, David Leitch will helm the actioner, which will feature the characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw played by Johnson and Statham. The production has no official title at the moment but filming is expected to begin later this year. The spin-off is due to hit cinemas in July 2019 and given the behind the scenes issues with Johnson with Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson, many expect Hobbs to be written off the next instalments of the Fast & Furious.
New Terminator Cast
Tim Miller’s upcoming Terminator sequel has found its new lead in the form of Gabriel Luna. The actor who was most recently seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D playing Ghost Rider will take on the role of the Terminator in the film. Also starring in the sequel is Natalie Reyes and McKenzie Davis along with Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger. However the franchise stars will reportedly playing smaller roles in this film. The new Terminator film is due in November 2019.
