Good news for fans in the DC camp because cameras are officially rolling for the upcoming Shazam! film. Director David F. Sandberg took to Instagram to announce that the DC Comics adaptation has started production. Zachary Levi is playing the titular character and he will be supported by Mark Strong, Grace Fulton, and Jack Dylan Grazer. Shazam! is expected to land in cinemas in April 2019. The next DCEU film will be Aquaman, which will land in cinemas in November 2018.
Aretha Franklin Biopic
There’s a new biopic in the works that will tell the story of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. According to recent reports, the MGM project will see Jennifer Hudson star as the music legend. No director has been tapped for the project as yet, but the premise is intriguing as Franklin boasts a stellar career in music. She is also one of the key influencers in gospel and R&B with a string of number one hits. Scott Bernstein (Straight Outta Compton) is set to produce this biopic. No release date has been given as yet.
Venom Wraps Production
Boy, that was quick. Despite starting filming just a few months ago, the standalone Venom movie starring Tom Hardy has apparently wrapped. Hardy took to social media to announce the news. Venom is slated to arrive in cinemas in October this year, which means the film, will head to post production almost immediately. Despite initially not being linked to the Spider-Man universe, new reports claim that Tom Holland will have a cameo appearance in Venom.
First Look: Jessica Jones Season 2
Netflix has revealed the first look of its Marvel series, Jessica Jones Season 2. The series continues with the events of season 1 with New York City private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) beginning to put her life back together after murdering her tormenter, Kilgrave. Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why. Jessica Jones Season 2 will premiere on 8 March 2018 on Netflix.
Emily Blunt Boards Jungle Cruise
Disney has tapped a number of big stars for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Jungle Cruise. The film, which is based on the beloved theme park ride, already has Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as its big star with director Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) at the helm. Now it appears that Disney has secured the services of Emily Blunt for the film as well. Blunt will be seen in Mary Poppins Return, which is currently in production. No official word yet on when Jungle Cruise will begin its production.
Ronda Rousey Joins WWE
The world of MMA and Sports Entertainment merged with the arrival of Ronda Rousey to the WWE. The former UFC Champion made her sensational debut at the end of the WWE Royal Rumble, hinting at a possible in-ring debut at WrestleMania in April. It was later revealed that Rousey had signed a full-time WWE contract making her arguably the biggest name stars on the roster. Although her time in the squared circle is set to dominate her career for the foreseeable future, the former MMA fighter will also feature on film with a role in Mile 22 with Mark Wahlberg.
