Stephen King’s The Mist is reportedly being developed into a television series by Dimension Television. Bolstered by the success of the MTV’s Scream series, The Mist will boast the talents of showrunner, Christian Torpe who helped create the Danish series, Rita.
According to reports, Dimension Television will look to adapt the series taking elements from the best-selling novel by King as well as the 2007 horror reboot by Frank Darabont. Both the book and the film zeroes in on a small town that gets blanketed in a mysterious mist, which soon creates untold horror for the townsfolk when otherworldly creatures start appearing.
With The Mist following a TV format, many fans believe that the series will allow King’s novel to truly come alive, allowing the horror to slowly build-up over the course of the series and perhaps explain matters that haven’t quite been explored in the 2007 film.
At present, Dimension Television will develop the series on their own with no network as yet being linked to the series. But with the huge ratings behind horror-fuelled series like The Walking Dead and its spin-off Fear the Walking Dead and series such as Scream, The Strain and American Horror Story, The Mist may well be a welcome addition to the fold.
