Batman: The Killing Joke is considered one of comics’ best written graphic novels. Now with Warner Bros. Animation about to release a movie adaptation based on the Alan Moore graphic novel, fans are wondering if it will hold true to the gritty nature of the source material.
Well the good news is it looks like DC and Warner Bros. are doing justice to the book by securing an R-Rating for the animated feature. This marks the first time Warner and DC is putting out an animated film with mature themes for audiences.
For those unfamiliar with the book, The Killing Joke sees the Joker orchestrating a plan to prove to Batman that one day can absolutely ruin a person’s life. The clown prince of crime then targets Commissioner Gordon and his daughter Barbara to prove his point. The ordeal ultimately ends with Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl becoming paralysed in the process.
Batman: The Killing Joke will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray as well as Digital HD later this year.
