Netflix chose the Super Bowl to drop the trailer for The Cloverfield Paradox, which premieres today on the streaming channel. In a surprise move, Netflix delivered a blitz of its own during the big game, revealing the Cloverfield sequel, which was initially supposed to arrive in cinemas this year.
The Cloverfield Paradox seems to be a direct sequel or follow-up to the Cloverfield movie, evident by the ominous warning that something happened ten years ago, followed by clips from that movie. However it is not known at this time if in fact The Cloverfield Paradox has any tie-ins whatsoever with 10 Cloverfield Lane.
In today’s environment, it’s refreshing to see some surprises still being delivered by studios and production companies. Keeping something like The Cloverfield Paradox under wraps is considered a pretty impressive feat. And there’s no doubt in our minds what we’ll be watching tonight.
The official synopsis reads..
“In the near future, a group of international astronauts on a space station are working to solve a massive energy crisis on Earth. The experimental technology aboard the station has an unexpected result, leaving the team isolated and fighting for their survival.”
The Cloverfield Paradox stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl, and Chris O’Dowd and premieres today on Netflix.
