The Angry Birds Movie trailer shows us what it would be like when the hit video game takes on a life of its own for the silver screen. Trust Sony Pictures to bring the mobile game to life as it attempts to ride on the popularity of the game to possibly turn this animated adventure into a franchise vehicle.
It remains to be seen if Sony and Rovio can do that when it’s released in Summer next year, but from what we’ve seen in the first Angry Birds Movie trailer, they seem to be on the right path.
The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis – We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride – This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
The Angry Birds Movie opens in cinemas in May 2016.
