TNT is issuing a ten episode series order for the upcoming Tales from the Crypt reboot produced by M. Night Shyamalan. Based on the cult classic comic book series by EC Comics, the franchise was eventually made into a hit anthology TV series that ran from the late 80s to mid-90s. The book also produced a movie in the 70s as well.
The new TNT series produced by Shyamalan will continue the anthology series concept with both short and long-form storytelling, which will be curated by the acclaimed writer-director. There will also be a new Crypt Keeper in play for the series.
Joining Tales from the Crypt are two more horror thrillers which make up TNT’s total slate of horror projects for the small screen. The first of which, Time of Death is said to be a cross between American Horror Story and 2, with a real-time scenario that pays homage to classic 1980s slasher films.
The other is Creatures, which is a sophisticated psychological thriller that tells the disturbing tale of two former best friends who, at 12 years old, tried to cut out their classmate’s heart as a sacrifice to an internet bogeyman they invented. Tales from the Crypt will serve to anchor TNT’s horror slate in 2017.
