It looks like Suicide Squad 2 has found its director with Gavin O’ Connor coming on board to helm the Warner Bros sequel. The director stepped in to replace David Ayer who will not return to direct. A number of directors were scouted for the coveted position, but ultimately Warner Bros settled on O’Connor as the man for the job.
O’Connor has had a good working relationship with Warner Bros following his work on The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, which was released last year. The director’s credentials also include Jane Got a Gun, Warrior, Pride and Glory and Miracle.
Nothing much is known about Suicide Squad 2 except that it will reunite the characters from the original such as Will Smith (Deadshot), The Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Production on the film should begin early next year but it will also depend on the availability of Smith.
The action star has just started work on the live-action treatment of Aladdin with Disney, which will see him star as the iconic Genie. If all goes according to plan, we’ll see Suicide Squad 2 in cinemas sometime in late 2019.
