Fans of the HBO hit series, The Sopranos will be glad to hear that a prequel movie is currently in development. The Many Saints of Newark, will see the younger versions of the characters from the hit series appear on screen in a pivotal story.
Sopranos creator, David Chase and long-time Sopranos collaborator, Lawrence Konner penned the script, which is based on the 1960s Newark riots. The tumultuous time saw a fierce rivalry between African Americans and the Italians of Newark.
The Many Saints of Newark may see Alan Taylor, who helmed several episodes of The Sopranos, stepping into the director’s seat. No further details are available as yet with regards to the film’s production or casting.
The Sopranos was a sizeable hit for HBO. The series, which revolved around a group of gangsters, starred the late James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano, an Italian-American crime boss. The series ran from 1999 to 2007.
