Sony Pictures is reportedly planning on adapting some of its video game franchises on PlayStation into TV and movies. In a recent interview with CNBC, studio head, Tony Vinciquerra admitted that there are plans to create several TV shows and movies, which are based on PlayStation video games.
Video game franchises have unfortunately not enjoyed immense success in terms of adaptation. Although recently, both Pokemon and Sonic The Hedgehog films have managed to buck that trend. Sony will probably look at the upcoming Uncharted adaptation, starring Tom Holland as a benchmark.
Holland will be portraying protagonist Nathan Drake in the film, which will be released in 2021. Video game franchises have become the subject of numerous adaptations, especially in recent years. Netflix is currently adapting both Assassin’s Creed as well as Resident Evil shows whilst HBO is focusing on a series based on Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us.
