Star Trek 3 is facing insurmountable odds to get out of space dock and for fans of the series, this can’t be viewed as good news. Still reeling from the departure of Roberto Orci from the production, it now seems apparent that Paramount is looking to completely retool the next Trek instalment and they’ve most likely tossed Orci’s original script out the window.
However it isn’t all dire straits for the franchise as the studio is now looking to Doug Jung and Simon Pegg to co-write the new script. Pegg as fans would know plays engineer Scotty in the film series, whilst Jung is the creator of TNT series Dark Blue. For those who doubt Pegg’s ability in the writing department, rest assured the British actor has the credentials as he’s penned scripts for Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
It remains to be seen what Pegg and Jung will focus on as the central theme of Star Trek 3, but certain elements are already in place to continue the film series. The Trek cast are all but confirmed to return as will Justin Lin who will be taking over the helm from JJ Abrams, who has gone on to direct Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Star Trek 3 is scheduled for a release in 2016.
