The new trailer for Shazam confirms that this is one superhero movie that’s going to be less dark and certainly funnier than anything the DC Universe has thrown at fans. You could say that the film is exploring the lighter side of this comic book film universe, which was something it may have not been able to get away with a couple of years ago.
Shazam sees Asher Angel and Zachary Levi portray the titular superhero from DC Comics who possesses the powers of the immortal elders from the Greek mythology. The film seems Billy Batson (Angel), a streetwise 14-year-old foster kid who transforms into the adult superhero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard.
The new trailer takes a decisive step into comedy territory with a number of humorous moments. The running punchline is nevertheless the titular character revelling in the adult version of himself doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them.
However there could be a serious side to the film when the hero has to tackle the film’s main antagonist, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
Shazam is directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, and Marta Milans. The film is slated for an April release.
