The second Serenity trailer has landed and it appears the film may not be a straightforward thriller after all. Either that, or the producers have demanded a second mysterious cut for the film to generate more interest. Marketing folks are crafty that way.
But anyhow, Serenity comes from the creative mind of Oscar nominee Steven Knight, who is teasing once again to deliver a daringly original, sexy, stylized thriller. The film revolves around Baker Dill (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) a fishing boat captain who leads tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island.
His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead.
Karen’s appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he’d tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems.
As seen in the Serenity trailer, both McConaughey and Hathaway are supported by Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane. That’s a pretty awesome cast, so let’s hope Serenity sails rather than sinks when it opens in late January 2019.
