Director Scott Derrickson will not helm the new Doctor Strange sequel as he has left the production over ‘creative differences’. The director made the announcement on Twitter:

“Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.”

Marvel responded with a statement of its own stating, “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

The good news is that Derrickson will be staying on the executive produce the series. The bad news though is that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now without someone at the helm. Depending on how fast Marvel finds a replacement, this film may run into some production delays and may well miss its summer 2021 slot.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set for a release in May 2021.
