It looks like the Universal monster movie project is shaping up rather nicely with the addition of Russell Crowe as Dr Jekyll. The actor is slated to appear in The Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise, which is currently in production.
Yeah, I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna play Dr. Henry Jekyll, Fellow of the Royal Society,” offered the actor during a recent promo tour of The Nice Guys. The film is expected to expand the Universal monster movie universe, which will reportedly feature characters such as Dracula and Wolfman as well.
According to the official synopsis, Cruise is headlining a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy is expected to debut in cinemas June 2017.
