The CW will start a search for a new Batwoman now that Ruby Rose has decided to exit the role of the superhero series. Rose who portrays Kate Kane/Batwoman has decided to hang up the cape and cowl after one season of portraying the character.
“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles,” read her official statement relinquishing the role from the hit series.
Rose did not give a reason for her departure from the iconic role however she did suffer an injury during filming in Season 1 that required her to receive surgery. Moving forward, it remains unclear if The CW will re-cast the role of Kate Kane or chart an all-together new direction for the Arrowverse series.
In an official joint statement released by The CW and Warner Bros. TV, both the studio and network stated that they are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future. “We — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
