It’s a topic most superhero fans have been keeping their eye on in recent weeks, with regards to Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming role in a DC Comics film adaptation.
The subtle hints were there though, as the action star narrowed down speculation to just two characters in a rather cryptic tweet. And Twitter was once again the platform Johnson chose to announce his decision…
“Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.” My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics,” was the tweet Johnson sent out to his millions of followers, ‘officially’ announcing he will be taking on the mantle of Black Adam.
A mainstay character and arch nemesis of Captain Marvel a.k.a. Shazam, Black Adam originally began as a villain before becoming an anti-hero in the comic books. It would seem likely that Johnson’s portrayal of Black Adam will be similar, taking into account his popularity and massive fan base.
It is widely speculated, but not confirmed as yet, that Johnson’s Black Adam is the first piece to the puzzle for a Shazam! movie project which has been rumoured for some time. Johnson is currently filming San Andreas and also has a sleight of movie projects in the works including the sequel to Journey 2: Mysterious Island.
