UFC champion and all-round badass, Ronda Rousey is reportedly being tapped to star in the upcoming remake of Road House. For those of you too young to remember, Road House focused on a security expert turned bouncer who crosses paths with a group of thugs. The 80s cult classic starred Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliot. The reported big screen reboot by MGM could star Rousey as the main protagonist, which was played by Swayze in the original film.
Although still in developmental stages, Rousey has the presence and the gravitas for a project such as Road House, considering her immense success in the UFC. And she’s also been busy honing her acting skills in a number of films in the last few years appearing in roles in the Expendables 3, Furious 7 and most recently, Entourage.
Hollywood has tapped previous UFC stars before most notably, former MMA fighter Gina Carano who headlined the action thriller Haywire several years ago. If MGM can manage to put together a solid enough story in the hands of a capable director along with talented co-stars, then Rousey would have no issue making Road House the ideal project for her to break into Hollywood in a very big way.
Road House is currently in development.
