The 20th Century Fox sci-fi franchise is set to take on a fresh new spin with Shane Black at the helm.
Of all the sci-fi franchises right now, Predator is arguably the one that needs the most care and attention. This is why 20th Century Fox has finally decided to go back to the drawing board and reboot the franchise. And they’ve even tapped the perfect director to do it in Shane Black.
“It’s more of an inventive sequel,” says Black of his approach to the franchise. “Why start over, when you’ve got all this rich mythology. I can really get behind the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button,” he added.
The Predator franchise was one of 20th Century Fox’s greatest hits in the late 80s. The original starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is widely considered one of the best alien monster movies of all time. The film depicted a covert ops team who get killed off one by one by a mysterious alien hunter in the jungles of South America.
Predator spawned a sequel in 1990 with Danny Glover and in 2010 with Predators starring Adrien Brody. The alien creature also featured in two Aliens vs. Predator films in 2004 and 2007 respectively.
The Predator reboot is scheduled for a release in 2015.
