Sony Pictures has given fans the first look at its upcoming superhero flick, Morbius, which stars Jared Leto as an antihero vampire. For fans not quite sure to make of it, the film is based on a Marvel Comics character, which made his first appearance in the pages of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.
The backstory of the character is that of a doctor who goes in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. But during one of his treatments, he accidentally turns himself into a vampire with superhuman abilities.
Judging by the first trailer, Sony Pictures hasn’t switched the script on the character played by Leto. However, they have inserted a cameo at the end of the two minute tease that reveals a tie-in with the Spider-Man franchise, which should make MCU fans happy. Joining Leto in this superhero/vampire tale are Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Adria Arjona.
official synopsis reads:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.
Morbius flies into cinemas in the tail end of July 2020.
