Fans waiting to see Nicholas Hoult facing off against Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 7 will be in for a bit of a disappointment. Hoult has dropped out from participating in the sequel due to scheduling issues. The actor was set to play the film’s villain who would have faced off against Ethan Hunt and his team of IMF agents.
However writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has already found a replacement in Esai Morales who has stepped into the vacated role. Morales is a veteran actor with a number of roles on both the big screen and small screen. He has appeared in films such as La Bamba and also hit series such as NYPD Blue and Ozark. Most recently, Morales portrayed the villain Deathstroke in the DC Universe series, Titans as well.
Morales will reportedly play the big bad in both Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, which was set to film back-to-back. However due to the postponement of production due to the Coronavirus outbreak, production has been effectively put on hold. McQuarrie was already about to start filming in Venice when the shutdown went into effect.
Mission: Impossible 7 is currently set to premiere in July 2021. The film will also star Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby with Hayley Atwell and Shea Whigham. Henry Czerny will also return, reprising his role as former IMF director Kittridge from the first film.
