Rumours are swirling that director, Michael Bay is in talks with Warner Bros to potentially direct a DC superhero film. Apparently, Bay is being eyed by the studio to helm the Lobo standalone film.
The Transformers director should be the ideal man for the job, as Lobo is as outlandish as they come, as far as the DCEU goes anyway. But Lobo has been a non-starter project for some time at Warner Bros.
In 2009, a film surrounding the project was mooted with Guy Ritchie set to direct. When that deal fell through, director Brad Peyton was linked to the film, with Dwayne Johnson apparently set to star as the leading character. Since then, with all the developments and revamps surrounding the DCEU, Lobo has been kept on the shelf.
Bay is a sound director who’s largely renowned for his role in the Transformers franchise. With a dwindling fan base for ‘the robots in disguise’, Lobo could potentially be a new franchise the director can sink his teeth into.
With an eye for stunning visuals, Bay should bring a lot to the Lobo film, especially if he’s allowed to tell his own story. Despite Transformers being critically panned, the director is no stranger to creating blockbusters and can also deliver a solid entertaining story when he wants. 2013’s Pain and Gain and 2016’s 13 Hours are certainly proof of that.
