The Batman is currently in development at Warner Bros with Planet of the Apes director, Matt Reeves at the helm. Frankly it could be time to flip the switch on the Bat-signal as we haven’t seen a solo outing for the character since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises in 2012 (sorry, the Lego Batman Movie doesn’t count).
However, The Batman film does pose some problems for fans, and Warner Bros following the recent portrayal of the character in the DCEU. Despite featuring in several recent films including Batman v Superman, Justice League and a cameo in Suicide Squad, Ben Affleck’s Batman hasn’t gone down well fans.
The actor has been non-committal to the role, which will likely mean that a new actor will step in to don the iconic cape and cowl. Reeves, however, is fully on board for this new tale on the Batman as he’s a big fan of the character.
In a recent interview with SlashFilm, the director revealed that the script is getting worked on at the moment and if it all goes according to plan, the DC film may begin production in mid-2019. He also debunked rumours that The Batman will be an origins tale and based on Frank Miller’s stellar Year One story arc.
Although Reeves didn’t divulge any big reveals, the director did mention that he wanted to make a ‘noir-driven’ tale for his Batman film.
