After a nail-biting Grand Finale last night on Thursday 10 Dec, the first ever MasterChef Asia Winner has been revealed and its none other than Singaporean lawyer Woo Wai Leong. The winner defeated Malaysian banker Marcus Low by a mere 3 points!
The episode was rife with tension as the two remaining home cooks battled it out in their toughest tests yet: a Mystery Box, a Chef’s Round Table Meal and a Pressure Test. Leong’s dishes for the Mystery Box and Chef’s Round Table Meal wowed the judges and guest chefs, while Marcus’ dessert expertise came to the fore in the Pressure Test.
Each test was given points by the three in-house judges: culinary genius Susur Lee; 3-Michelin-starred chef Bruno Ménard; and Singapore-born, Audra Morrice, a MasterChef Australia finalist.
Woo, or better known as Leong, the first MasterChef Asia winner will receive his very own cookbook, a USD$50,000 cash prize, USD$10,000 worth of unique leisure experiences in Singapore, USD$15,000 of Panasonic home appliances, a paid internship at one of Carlton Hotel Singapore’s restaurants and a one-week stay at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
Nevertheless, Marcus still remains a winner in the hearts of all Malaysians! His food journey does not end here.We can’t wait to see what else is in store for our very own MasterChef Asia finalist.
