Disney is apparently looking to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with Margot Robbie at the helm. The in-demand actress, best known for her role as Harley Quinn, will apparently captain the franchise, according to a recent report, which may chart a new path for the successful series.
It is not known if Johnny Depp will be back as Captain Jack Sparrow or if this new film will continue the adventures of the previous film. There’s also a distinct possibility that the new Pirates of the Caribbean film may be a complete reboot as well.
Christina Hodson who penned Birds of Prey, which also starred Robbie, will be in charge of crafting the new story. Based on the theme park ride, Pirates of the Caribbean has been a huge hit for Disney with a total of five movies, which have collectively grossed over USD4 billion for the studio.
The Curse of the Black Pearl got the ball rolling in 2003 and it was pretty much smooth sailing for the franchise until Dead Men Tell No Tales, which saw the franchise losing a bit of wind in its sails. This coupled with Depp’s well-documented domestic issues may have forced Disney’s hand in charting a new journey for the beloved franchise.
