Marvel is moving with their next series with Netflix and this time it’s Jessica Jones. Following hot on the heels of the Daredevil series, the 13-episode Jessica Jones series is scheduled to enter production fairly soon with a debut set for 2015. Marvel and Netflix have also secured Krysten Ritter to star as the titular character.
Ritter will play Jessica Jones, a former superhero who is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective. The focus of the series will see the heroine pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
Initially introduced Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos’ classic Alias comic series, Jones garnered superhero abilities after an accident. Ritter’s involvement on the project is considered a coup as she apparently edged out Teresa Palmer for the role.
“Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands. We can’t wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg in the official release. Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television, also chimed in with his approval of the casting.
“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes. As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her long-time fans and introduce her to many more.”
