KLIAF Shows to Catch This Weekend

Launched in 2015, the KL International Arts Festival (KLIAF) has established a reputation as a major annual international celebration of the Arts. This year’s event is in full swing this month with a number of performances and events held in more than a dozen venues throughout Kuala Lumpur.

Produced by DiverseCity, this year’s KLIAF is offering up an eclectic mix of showcases performed by budding talents from both local and abroad.  Here are some KLIAF events happening this weekend, which you can catch to add a little culture into your life.

CERITERA TALKS
A talk by Che Ahmad Azhar on “Balancing Art and Storytelling” while Kemal Jufri will discuss his “Experience working in the Frontline”.

ONCE UPON A TIME
16 Strings takes you down memory lane with music from TV shows and films from the 60s to the present, interspersed with some story-telling.

An interactive storytelling using action and live music to recount the rise and fall of Macbeth, one of the greatest characters in Shakespeare’s cannon. Audience participation included!

zapinMAIN ZAPIN
A high energy and enjoyable showcase of the 14 dance forms of zapin found in this country.

THE SOURCE
Tan Su Yin showcases Western classical percussion playing, in particular, the marimba, covering a wide range of compositional techniques and musical styles.

SONG OF LAHORE, THE FILM
A documentary film that traces the journey of the Sachal Ensemble from its humble roots to worldwide acclaim.

SONG OF LAHORE
A cross-cultural re-creation of songs made iconic by the likes of Duke Ellington, The Beatles, Dave Brubeck, Henry Mancini, Richard Rodgers, as well as traditional Pakistani folk songs, performed by the Sachal Ensemble.

SEKETIKA SEBELUM MERDEKA
Pre-Merdeka Malayan classics reimagined by the WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble with Eddin Khoo.
