Following a less than stellar sequel, filmmakers are doubtful if Kick-Ass 3 will ever get made.
Kick-Ass was a massive hit in 2010, so much so that a sequel was immediately welcomed with open arms. Based on the comic book, the actioner was made with a modest budget of $28 million but it eventually grossed just over a $100 million, it also made both Aaron Taylor Johnson and Chloe Moretz household names.
Although its sequel was made with a similar budget, Kick-Ass 2 only garnered $60 million in returns and was largely panned by critics. This has caused the franchise to now dwell in development limbo.
“Will we make another one again? I don’t know. It’s definitely up in the air, and we’ll just have to see,” commented Kick-Ass co-creator Mark Millar in a recent interview with Comic Book Resources. But he was quick to add that Kick-Ass 3 isn’t entirely out of the question because director Matthew Vaughn might still want to do it. “He’s got the movie rights, so it’s ultimately his decision. If he decides he does want to do it, I know he’ll get it done well.”
Are you bummed about not seeing another Kick-Ass or are you happy with where the franchise was left off?
