Recent reports claim that WWE Superstar John Cena has officially joined the Fast and Furious franchise and will feature in the ninth instalment of the film. Star Vin Diesel suggested a possible collaboration with a social media post featuring the two talents just a few weeks ago.
Cena would make a valuable addition to the franchise following the ‘departure’ of Dwayne Johnson from the series. With The Rock and Jason Statham breaking away on their own spinoff with Hobbs & Shaw, it remains to be seen what Vin Diesel and gang will deliver to ensure that the franchise remains a pull at the box-office.
As for Cena, it remains to be seen what role he will play in the sequel, if he will channel a bad guy or be a new addition to Dom’s team. However, if this news is indeed confirmed, it would further cement the pro-wrestler’s transition into Hollywood, following the likes of Johnson and Dave Bautista.
Thus far Cena has featured in the Transformers prequel, Bumblebee and last year’s sleeper comedy hit, Blockers. Fast and Furious 9 is scheduled for a May 2020 release and will be directed by Justin Lin.
