Sony Pictures Animation has greenlit a sequel to winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which will hit cinemas in April 2022. Chris Miller and Phil Lord are set to return as producers with Joaquim Dos Santos helming the film.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was an amazing success story for Sony Pictures Animation. After making USD375 million at the box-office, the film went on to win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature this year.
The film told the story of Miles Morales, a Brooklyn teen from an alternate reality who becomes the new spider-man. The story also showcased spider-men from alternate realities and other dimensions after the Kingpin a.k.a. Wilson Fisk discovers a way to open multiple portals.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse featured the voice talents of Shameik Moore, Liev Schrieber, Chris Pine, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, John Mulaney and Nicolas Cage. The sequel will apparently address the romance/ friendship between Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales.
