Adam Sandler and Peter Dinklage play old school arcaders who have to stop an alien invasion.
PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Frogger, Q*bert, Space Invaders, Centipede…these are just some of the iconic games that were big hits in the 80s. And now they’re coming back in a big way as one of the focal points of a brand new comedy directed by Chris Columbus.
The highly-anticipated action comedy Pixels, stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, and Brian Cox. The premise involves an alien race who misinterprets video-feeds of classic video games as a declaration of war against them. In fact, when they attack earth, the aliens utilise the games itself as models of their assaults.
Forced on the offensive, President Will Cooper (James) has no choice but to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theatre installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
“It was a real thrill to see everything come together exactly as we envisioned it, and we’re grateful to have all of these fantastic games on board for this film,” commented Columbus. ““There would be no way to make the movie without these legendary characters and video games – they are as important to the film as the roles that Adam, Kevin, Michelle, Peter, Josh, and Brian are playing.”
Pixels is currently in production and will be released in May 2015.
