It looks like Justin Lin could be in the driving seat of another motor-centric film with a Hot Wheels movie apparently in the works. According to recent reports, Mattel Entertainment is collaborating with Legendary Pictures, which could bring the iconic toy line to life on the big screen.
This isn’t the first time Mattel is focusing its sights on kick-starting a potential lucrative franchise as it also has a live-action Max Steel movie due out this October. If Max Steel, which is classified PG-13, delivers results then expect Hot Wheels to be fast tracked for a release within the next few years.
On paper, a Hot Wheels movie could potentially work, considering its vast fan base, which spans almost 50 years. In fact, 2018 will see the iconic toy line celebrate its 50th anniversary. If it follows the template set by The LEGO Movie, then Hot Wheels could potentially be a lucrative franchise.
Lin also could be a good fit to helm or lend his talents to the project considering his experience with the Fast & Furious films. He also did a grand job with Star Trek Beyond, which injected a bit of action into the sci-fi franchise.
