The award-winning French feature, The Intouchables has got an American remake with Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. The film, titled The Upside, sees the two actors portray an ex-convict who strikes up an unusual and unlikely friendship with a paralyzed billionaire.
The Intouchables would seem as a perfect fit for a Hollywood remake, considering how well international audiences gravitated towards this heart-warming tale. The French film, which was inspired by a true story, grossed over US$400 million worldwide, which is indeed impressive.
The American version is directed by Neil Burger and also stars Nicole Kidman, Juliana Marguiles and Aja Naomi King.
The film was previously made under the banner of The Weinstein Co. but following Harvey Weinstein’s recent scandals, which sparked the #MeToo movement, the studio has now filed for bankruptcy leaving films like The Upside in limbo.
Fortunately, STXFilms has swooped in to acquire the film, and have it ready for distribution in the near future.
