The Watchmen series is undoubtedly one of the most iconic superhero comic book series that has been produced. It set the bar for how comic books were written and it’s gone on to become a cult classic in its own right.
The comic book was adapted for the big screen with Zack Snyder in 2009 with some success. Now, HBO is adapting The Watchmen for the small screen as part of their original programming offering for the near future. And they’ve assembled a pretty decent cast to play these iconic characters too.
The confirmed cast members includes Regina King (HBO’s “The Leftovers”, “Jerry Maguire”), Don Johnson (“Miami Vice”, “The Other Woman”), Tim Blake Nelson (“Lincoln”, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”), Louis Gossett Jr. (HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”, “An Officer and a Gentleman”), Adelaide Clemens (HBO’s “Parade’s End”, “The Great Gatsby”) and Andrew Howard (“The Brave”, “Taken 3”).
Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, The Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original ground-breaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
Executive producers of the HBO series include Damon Lindelhof, Nicole Kassell and Tom Spezialy.
